Candlemas Choral Evensong

CANDLEMAS CHORAL EVENSONG takes place Sunday, January 29, 5:00 p.m., in the church. Candles will be blessed, after which the choir and congregation with lighted candles will move in Festal Procession. (All candlelit hymns will appear in the printed program.) We celebrate Mary’s ritual Purification and Jesus’ Presentation in the Temple, when the aged Simeon and Anna acclaimed the baby Jesus to be the long-awaited Messiah, the Light to lighten the Gentiles. The Choir of Christ the Redeemer will sing the classic Anglican Evensong service with music of Johannes Brahms, Herbert Howells, and Toby Wardman. Child care will be provided. The service will last approximately an hour and 15 minutes. Offer your prayers to God by candlelight and through wonderful music.
